Around the country, Tommy’s Express team members serve at the window, inside the wash tunnel, and outside in the vacuum bays as they help guests.

Collectively and in cities around the country, Tommy’s Express franchise owners and operators partner with local organizations to give back.

Local impact of Tommy’s Express locations

The following are just a few (of many) examples of various locations and their heart for giving.

This is not required by the Tommy’s Express franchise or corporate headquarters. It’s just part of who we are. 

• Tommy’s Express in Mounds View, MN helps Rise Inc. “Rise unlocks potential and opens doors to success for people with disabilities or other challenges through creative solutions and customized support.”   

• Tommy’s Express of Spring Hill, FL donated $1 donated for every car washed between 10-2 on February 18, 2023 to the Springstead High School Soccer Team ($1,182), and did the same for the Strike City Youth Bowling Team ($916) on March 25, 2023.  
    
• Tommy’s Express of Orland Park, IL hosted a guest appreciation event and toy drive, raising $2,000 for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation, supporting children with cancer.

• Tommy’s Express of Richmond, VA supports the Humane Society. Gotta love helping out the dogs and cats!  
    
• Tommy’s Express of Lansing, MI supports a different nonprofit every month. In May of 2023, it’s Head Start, supporting young children in school and beyond.

Central to our core values: giving back 

Every year, Tommy’s Express offers free washes to active and retired military on Veterans Day.   In 2021, we washed 3,766 cars for free, and in 2022: 5,661 cars.  

With every single wash at Tommy’s Express, we donate to Water Mission, a clean water charity that builds safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions in developing countries and disaster areas. To date, Water Mission has served more than 7 million people in 57 countries.  

While we are many locations across the country, we are one when we join together to serve others. This Fourth of July (and all year long), it’s a great reminder of the unity of our purpose.

As an organization, we believe strongly in corporate social responsibility and feel that we have a duty to give back and help those in need. 

Water Mission is our first and oldest corporate partner. With every car washed, we donate to Water Mission as they work to provide long-term clean water solutions for at-risk communities globally.

Sustainability

Tommy’s Express gives you an eco-friendly, sustainable option for fast, easy car washing. 

Sustainability is high on our priority list. Each Tommy’s Express uses high-efficiency wash equipment, much of it custom-engineered. This equipment includes high-pressure applicators, reverse osmosis systems, and reclaim systems. 

By constantly optimizing our systems, we’re able to wash cars using less than 35 gallons of water per vehicle, about as much as you would use taking a bath and much less than the average driveway car wash.  

And even after your wash, the used water and detergents are safely routed to a water treatment plant via the sanitary sewer. This keeps our detergents out of storm drains and your local streams, lakes, and rivers.

For the month of October 2020, Tommy’s Express Car Wash is excited to be partnering with Susan G. Komen. Their mission is to “Save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.“ Here at Tommy’s Express we wanted to do our part to help contribute to the fight against breast cancer.

However, the content was a more significant challenge than we anticipated. We knew there was a story to be told and education to be had. As a result, we developed our #CleanForACure #SurvivorStory campaign. We reached out to our nationwide following, asking if anyone had a story. Stories involving battles won and lost with breast cancer. The response was astounding and took us on an emotional journey we couldn’t have been prepared for. Here’s what we read… (prepare to have a transformed perspective about breast cancer)

Fred’s #SurvivorStory

In 2006, I was diagnosed with male breast cancer. I had a modified radical mastectomy in May of that year and have been a survivor for the past 14 years. I was lucky they found the cancer early, giving me a better chance of survival. Although somewhat rare, men need to know they can get breast cancer.

Staci’s #SurvivorStory

In February 2016 (was supposed to go in October), Staci went in for a mammogram… yep cancer… small, still in milk duct… so the next steps were a biopsy. The cancer was removed and thankfully was not in any lymph nodes. Thirty-three radiation treatments later, she was cancer-free! Don’t wait to get your yearly check-up! It could have been much worse.

Crystal’s #SurvivorStory

I saw your ad about sharing breast cancer stories. My world was turned upside down on October 2, 2019, when I got the news that I had breast cancer. For a month before, I went through several tests to confirm my diagnosis, and it was the longest month of my life. I was only 45; how could I have breast cancer so young? I truly feel that there was some divine intervention. I originally went to the doctor for something completely different and told my doctor that I should probably schedule a mammogram since I had been putting it off. It turns out I never had the original infection I thought I had, but instead found out I had a very early stage of breast cancer. Early detection is critical!! I chose to go with a double mastectomy after hearing I had about a 45% chance of returning if I did a lumpectomy with radiation. There was no way I was going with those odds. On December 19, I had bilateral mastectomies.

I am so fortunate that I did not have to have radiation or chemotherapy. Again, early detection is KEY! Although, I have felt guilt over not being as sick as others. It has been a lot of “why me?”. On March 5, 2020, I started the reconstruction process, with a final surgery on July 2, 2020. It has been a long and emotional process. Despite all the support, it is still a very lonely and personal process. It is still surreal to think that I had cancer and came out on top! I hope to inspire others to be strong and fight. Thank you so much for dedicating October to such an important cause.

Martha’s #SurvivorStory

I’m a very lucky survivor for 18 years as of October 6. I say lucky because my cancer was caught very early, I had excellent care, and I’ve survived to enjoy life and all of my family.

In the midst of this time of uncertainty, we wanted to take a few moments to let you know that one thing is certain: we care about you. Your well-being is our primary concern, and it is our sincere hope that you and your family stay safe and healthy. This philosophy has been at the core of our family-owned business since we opened our first car wash in 1969, and it is a philosophy we have instilled in each local owner of a Tommy’s Express facility in your market.

While all of our locations will remain open for the foreseeable future, we have instituted a number of health and safety measures to ensure that you’ll still have the best wash experience possible. For starters, we are currently cleaning and disinfecting the following items multiple times every day:

• Surfaces
• Vacuum buttons
• Vacuum nozzles
• Outside vending
• Mat Washers
• Screens
• Bathrooms
• Handles
• Doorknobs

Beyond these precautions, we are working closely with the local owners/operators of our Tommy’s Express facilities to ensure team members are wearing gloves in the cashier lane. In addition, we have asked that our vacuum stalls are only open every other stall to ensure more distance and private space around each guest vacuuming in the area.

We are also following Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations on additional steps we can take to help prevent the spread of this virus. As such, we have shared specific instructions with our employees on the importance of washing their hands and staying home if they are sick.

Even with these challenging circumstances we will continue to focus on doing what we do best; giving you the best possible car wash experience. Our App lane is always open, with no human-to-human contact necessary. That might be as safe an outing as you and your family can get during the next couple of weeks of social distancing.

We will continue to stay vigilant in monitoring this situation, and we will keep you informed of any additional news that pertains to you. But even as these circumstances continue to change, our commitment to you never will. It’s because of you that we work every day to provide an unforgettable car wash experience, and we will continue to go the extra mile to provide you the cleanest and friendliest place possible to keep your vehicle clean.
